The Carl Borromeo School in Altdorf, located in the middle of the majestic Swiss Alps and near Lake Lucerne, is the home of the Borromeo Music Festival. The two-week long instrumental program is designed for talented pianists and string players who come to deepen their knowledge of the solo and chamber music repertoire on their instruments.

TUITION / ROOM & BOARD FEES

The total fees for the Borromeo Music Festival include:

  • 3 individual lessons and 2 studio classes
  • Chamber music coachings
  • Participation in solo and chamber music recitals and masterclasses
  • Room and board at Campus Altdorf with three meals per day, double or single occupancy
  • Free attendance at all festival concerts and masterclasses
  • Regular access to practice rooms and pianos
  • Round trip bus rides from Zurich Airport to Altdorf
  • Excursions organized by the festival

Total fees with double occupancy room: $3,350 USD
Total fees with single occupancy room: $3,850 USD
Cello rental (optional): $200 USD – for cellists who want to travel light

GUESTS & AUDITORS

These fees are for auditors and guests of our accepted festival students.
Guest fees include:

  • Admission to all concerts, master classes and chamber music coachings
  • Room & Board with three meals per day at Campus Altdorf
  • Round trip bus rides from Zurich Airport to Altdorf
  • Excursions organized by the festival

Double occupancy: $2,500 USD

Single occupancy: $2,850 USD

HOUSING & MEALS

All festival participants are housed at the newly renovated Campus Altdorf, a hotel dorm nested amidst green meadows with an orchard and a small animal farm. It is also near several hiking paths and at a five-minute walk’s distance from the festival school. All meals are prepared by an in-house cook and his crew.

7 am – Breakfast
8:30 am – Individual practice
10 am – Lessons / rehearsals / chamber music coachings
12 noon – Lunch
1 pm – Free time / individual practice
2:30 pm – Rehearsals / chamber music coachings / masterclasses
5:30 pm – Dinner
7:30 pm – Concert

TRAVEL & VISA INFORMATION

Before booking your flight tickets, keep in mind the following important dates and information:

  • Monday, July 15th – Arrival of all participants. The festival bus to Altdorf departs Zurich Airport at 6:45 pm.
    IMPORTANT: participants meet at 6 pm in front of the Car Rental Center inside the airport. A festival meet & greet for all participants takes place at 8:30 pm at Campus Altdorf, the Borromeo Music Festival’s hotel.
  • Tuesday, July 16th – The festival begins with a mandatory orientation at 9 am.
  • Sunday, July 28th – Final concert and lakeside festival party by Lake Lucerne.
  • Monday, July 29th – Checkout from Campus Altdorf and bus ride to Zurich Airport, departing at 6:00 am
  1. Passport / Visa – Be sure you have a valid passport, and check the visa requirements of your own country for travel to Switzerland. Some countries, such as the US, require passports to be valid for an additional 6 or 12 months beyond the re-entry date. International students should apply for the Schengen Visa (tourist visa). Passport holders of the following countries do NOT need a Schengen visa to enter Switzerland: United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, EU.   2. Parental or Guardian Release Form – International students and auditors under the age of 18 must sign and return the “Parental or Guardian Release Form”.
  3. Health Insurance – Each participant must have their own health insurance and email proof to the festival administration.
  4. Travel information from Zurich Airport to the Borromeo Music Festival
    International students and faculty fly into Zurich Airport (ZRH), where the festival will provide a shuttle bus on Monday, July 15th at 6:45 pm. The festival staff will meet all participants at 6 pm in the waiting area in front of the Car Rental Center, which is located inside Zurich Airport.

    Students and faculty who are not using the festival bus – please read carefully the following instructions:

    If you chose not to to ride on the festival bus you are responsible for your own travel arrangements to the festival town of Altdorf. Swiss trains are punctual and reliable, and there are regular trains every hour. The airport and Swiss railway staff speak English. Train tickets can be purchased online or at the Zurich Airport train station – make sure to buy your train tickets for travel to Flüelen (“Flüelen Bahnhof” station). The approximate time on the train from Zurich Airport to Flüelen is 1 hour and 45 minutes. Once at Flüelen train station, participants can contact the festival staff to arrange for a ride to Campus Altdorf, the festival’s hotel.
